Our world is deeply flawed but there are people trying to change that. When violent acts force thousands of families to flee from their homes, World Refugee Day, held every June 20, honours the strength, bravery and perseverance of those refugees.

This year, not only did it mark the public show of support for the families forced to flee, 2Face also released a song titled “Hold My Hand” to help refugees. Like the Michael Jackson song with a similar title, the song is an empathetic call for people to care about others and was released in support of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).

His transition to activism isn’t recent. Earlier his year, he announced the 2Face Foundation’s partnership with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to help fight the predicament of IDPs after he made a 3.5 million naira donation.

“Hold My Hand” was written by 2Baba and produced by Bolji Beatz. It also features vocals by Grace Mathew, an 8-year-old girl from an IDP camp who witnessed the murder of several of her relatives in Borno where she fled from. On the song, Grace talks about the challenges the refugees face everyday.

On his Instagram page, 2face said:

“Tomorrow is World Refugee Day. The plight of Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria is very dear to my heart. Tomorrow, I will be releasing a new single ‘Hold My Hand’ to raise money and awareness for them. 60% of all the proceeds. Look forward to it. Download, stream and use as Ring Back Tune. That’s one way we can all do our bit.”
